The company name is the historic Flemish word for ostrich. The ostrich on the coat of arms of the brewery also indicates the involvement with the nearby ostrich farm. The brewery got very well-known all over Europe, after it was discovered by the owners of famous beershop in Copenhagen – Ølbutikken.
